Is it a ghost or an apparition? It's a Weimaraner!
The Weimaraner was first recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1942 and the
Weimaraner club of America in 1943.
Buying a Weimaraner puppy should be regarded as taking on a new family member.
Weimaraners are beautiful
dogs, they are a picture of grace, speed and stamina. It has very distinct striking coat and light colored eyes.
The Weimaraner is a very versatile breed. They can be used for hunting, pointing, retrieving, agility and obedience
competitions as well as competing in conformation events.
The Weimaraners personality is considered a complex one. To strangers, some Weimaraners may appear
aloof and self-assured (they will often bark, stand back when strangers arrive preferring to go over in their own good
time or when their owners let them know it is okay). With their own people however they reveal a more complete personality.
They are intelligent, questioning, courageous, powerful, sensitive, fun loving, demanding, clever, devoted, cuddly, obedient,
stubborn, pushy and loving. Unlike a retrieving dog that's bred to sit and wait for direction, a pointing breed is designed
to go and find what you want them to find. The adult weimaraner and puppy both need plenty of activity and they
want to be the center of attention. Weimaraners usually get along well with other dogs and learn to make friends
with other animals as well. This breed makes a wonderful companion for adults and children, taking great joy in pleasing
their owners. Weimaraners love the outdoor activities, but require human interaction. A Weimaraner will shadow
it's owner from room to room, rest it's head on your feet and will want to share your bed. They have been bred
to be companions to their owners so consequently the best home will be where people plan to spend a lot of time with the dog
and not expect it to entertain itself. These affectionate, intelligent dogs may demand a lot, but return every ounce of
owner effort with unconditional love and devotion.
The Weimaraners head is noble with aristocratic features. It's expression should reflect kindness and intelligence.
The breeds ears are long, slightly folded and set. The eyes range in color from light amber to gray or blue gray
while the nose is always gray. You can easily groom a Weimaraner at home with weekly polishing with a hounds mitt.
The short coat is relatively free of dander and is not highly allergic to humans.
